How Pricing Works in This Category

These skins follow the same rarity ladder as every other weapon category, from Consumer Grade up through Covert, with wear condition and StatTrak status affecting price the usual way. What keeps most of the category cheap is competitive relevance. SMGs are bought for anti-eco and force-buy rounds rather than full buys, shotguns are situational picks for a handful of specific angles, machine guns see less use still, and the two auto-snipers are close to unused at any level of play. That thin demand keeps the price ceiling for most of these skins well below what a rifle or AWP skin of the same rarity commands. Souvenir versions still only exist for weapons that have appeared in an official Major's souvenir package, the same restriction as everywhere else.

Names You Might Not Know

A few weapons here carry more history than players expect. The MP9 is modeled on a real Swiss submachine gun of the same name, Maschinenpistole 9, itself a further development of the Austrian Steyr TMP. The PP-Bizon (Russian for "Bison") was co-designed by Victor Kalashnikov and Alexei Dragunov, the sons of Mikhail Kalashnikov and Yevgeni Dragunov. The SSG 08 takes its name from Scharfschützengewehr, German for "sharpshooter rifle," and is modeled on the Steyr Scout, while the G3SG1 is Heckler & Koch's Gewehr 3 Scharfschützengewehr 1, a designated-marksman conversion of the standard G3 battle rifle first fielded in the 1970s. The XM1014 is still named for its prototype designation: the real Benelli M4 Super 90 was tested by the US military under that "X" prefix before being adopted as the M1014 in 1999. The Negev takes its name from the Negev Desert in southern Israel, where its manufacturer is based, and the M249 is the actual US designation for the FN Minimi, adopted in 1984.

P90: The Skin That Broke the Category

Almost everything here trades in the same modest range as its anti-eco siblings, but the P90 breaks that pattern entirely. Skins like Asiimov and Death by Kitting regularly sell for well above what any MAC-10 or MP9 skin commands at the same rarity and wear. Much of that comes down to canvas: the P90's large, flat receiver panels display a full design far more clearly than the narrow profile of most other weapons in this group, making it one of the most requested bases for community skin artists.

Why These Weapons Share One Category

SMGs, shotguns, machine guns and the SSG 08 play almost nothing alike, and CS2's buy menu still splits them across separate tabs. Grouping them here is a browsing decision, not a gameplay one: each class on its own is a short list that trades in low volume, and a shopper comparing a cheap-round purchase is usually weighing an MP9 against a MAG-7 rather than against another SMG. Rifles, the AWP, pistols, knives, and gloves each get their own category because each is deep enough to browse alone. Everything else is more useful together than apart — including the three scoped rifles that aren't the AWP, whose prices read far more sensibly next to a P90 than next to a Dragon Lore.
