Drop odds and expected value

Opening one returns €0.42 in expected value against a €0.11 weapon case — about 3.8× its price. That is an average across many openings, not a forecast for one: most of it sits in rare drops the majority of openings never produce.

The Kilowatt Case, the Charm Case

The Case That Introduced Charms

Kilowatt arrived with CS2's charm update and carries the Kukri Knife as its headline rare special — the first new knife added to the game in years at the time. That gives it a different profile from an ordinary case: a chunk of its attention comes from the knife being genuinely new rather than from the finishes, and its price behaved accordingly on release before settling.

Odds, Unchanged Across Every Weapon Case

Kilowatt uses the same published tier odds as every other weapon case: roughly 80% Mil-Spec, 16% Restricted, 3.2% Classified, 0.64% Covert and 0.26% rare special. Nothing about a newer case makes its knife more or less likely. What differs between cases is entirely the value sitting in each tier, which is why the expected value above is worth more attention than the percentages — the percentages are the same everywhere.

What to Check Before Opening

Compare the expected value above against the case price plus the key, since the key is a real and non-refundable part of the cost of an opening and is not included in the case price shown. Then check the drop table for the two or three finishes you would actually be pleased to pull, and look up what they cost outright. For most people most of the time that comparison answers the question quickly.

Charms, and Why This Case Sits Apart

Kilowatt is also the case people reach for when explaining how CS2's item economy expanded beyond skins. The charm system it shipped alongside created an entirely separate class of tradable cosmetic with its own capsules and its own market, and while charms do not drop from this case, the association keeps Kilowatt in conversations it would otherwise sit outside. For pricing purposes that association is noise: what the case is worth is decided by the Kukri and the finishes in its drop table, both of which are listed above with live prices.
