A rifle skin's price starts with its rarity tier, running from Consumer Grade at the low end up to Covert at the top, with Contraband sitting in a category of its own above even Covert. Wear condition matters just as much: a Factory New copy can cost several times more than the same skin in Battle-Scarred, since a cleaner finish shows more of the underlying pattern.
