The Complete Guide to CS2 Knife Skin Prices

How CS2 Knife Pricing Works

Unlike every other weapon category, rarity tier isn't a variable for knives. Every knife, regardless of model, drops as a Covert-equivalent "Rare Special Item" at roughly 0.26% odds per case, the same tier gloves occupy. With rarity fixed, price comes down almost entirely to which model it is (demand varies sharply between, say, a Karambit and a Navaja), the finish and pattern, and wear condition, with StatTrak copies carrying a further premium on an already rare drop.

Knife Names You Might Not Know

The Karambit takes its name from the Minangkabau word for tiger's claw, tracing back to a small curved farming tool from West Sumatra, Indonesia, long before it became a weapon. The Kukri is the traditional curved blade of Nepal's Gurkha soldiers, with a design some historians trace back roughly 2,500 years. The Bowie Knife carries the name of Jim Bowie, the American frontiersman whose large fighting knife became legendary after the 1827 Sandbar Fight near Natchez, Mississippi.

Knives in CS2: The Last Resort That Became a Status Symbol

In actual gameplay, the knife is a last resort, pulled out only when you're out of ammo or saving money, and it's the default weapon for the warm-up "knife fights" many servers run before a match starts. That contrast, a backup weapon nobody equips on purpose mid-round commanding the highest prices in the game, is a big part of why knife skins function as a visible flex. Since an opponent's knife model is visible during a kill or a taunt, it's one of the few skins constantly on display regardless of whether the round is even won.

FAQ

CS2 knife skins are cosmetic finishes for the melee weapon every player carries by default, covering models like the Karambit, Butterfly Knife, and M9 Bayonet. They don't change how the knife performs, only how it looks, but knives are consistently the most expensive category of skin in the game.
